i'd advise anyone who was interested to check out the opening china > rider, it was excellent. set 2 was quite good too, i loved the ds > st st > 11 > ds > terrapin; they even did the entire album version of terrapin with that killer fusion-y jam at the end.

really great scene - i know some aren't huge fans of this group but it's hard to have a bad time when they're playing right in front of you! i'm going to the 7/10 show too, looking forward to it.

Both nights were great! I love the crazy mixed up setlists and I think the sound mix has really improved over time. Jeff Pehrson and Sunshine Becker have been doing such a wonderful job with backing vocals. (9 more days til my next show - YIPPEE!!)

btw, the next night looks amazing as well, and from listening to a few tracks it might have been even better than the one i was at:

the first set certainly trumps mine! :(

I was lucky to be at both nights . The venue was excellent , as well as the Americana that is Coney Island ( plus our 16th WAnniv. ). Musically I felt the second night had more of a spark , which was shocking to me b/c of the JG tunes played that I have a hard time hearing from another voice .
Thank- you PL & BW . No , it aint GD - but what is ? Hope I can get it done @ 70 . BTW - PL vocals were O.K. ( Eyes ) , plus a classic blown verse in StS . that had everyone , beginning w/Phil , laughing along .
I have a different perspective as Deb and I were able to spend time w/ first timers Dain & Jessica who are 20 to our 40 in age . This is what they know and love . Far be it for me to disparage any longer the spinoffs since '95 . I remember a quote from when Jerry died that has stuck w/ me , " I felt that it had all ended. There wouldn't be any more GD . A part of me had also died . Then I thought of the people who would never see GD . " This is what folks coming into this scene know . This is the next generation to carry the light . They want to know the history . They want to be included , and not separated by the '95 barrier . Maybe us Touch Heads can recall our beginnings . I had a lot of help and love along the way .

edit - MC no hassles on this end with anything . You never can tell I guess .

Well said, and as someone from the generation that "missed it" i can say that it's very significant for me to have been a part of the after party, if not the main event.

i think i got there a little too late; even after parking, it was a crazy hassle to get in. but maybe i'm just not used to those circumstances. still, i got in just in time to pee before hearing the opening notes of china cat, so i can't really complain can i?

I was there on Saturday and we had a ball. True that parking was nuts but that's NYC...I wasn't gonna take the train so I don't complain. Anyway, I will def take a Furthur show or Ratdog or whatever rather than have it all be memories at this point. Yeah, it's not quite the same but I'm not the same either. I'm glad that I get the chance to go to a show @ 39 with a little bit more $$ and experience in my pockets than I did at 21. And, I love the fact that the age mix is so vast. I hope they keep it rolling so I can bring my kids and introduce them to the lifestyle and the music. It's a family affair and that's part of what I love about it.

xoxoxo everybody

We made a day of it . There was so much to do besides the lot , so showing up around noon had a lot to do w/ it . Parked on the street too . I had almost as much fun @ the beach . Families , parties , dancing folks w/ music from around the world . It was great to see our tribe interact and get down w/ the groove that was going down .
Did you notice that no one was buying anything on Shakedown - except food / drink . We had no luck , and out of curiosity ( well me being me ) I began asking about and that was the consensus . Good luck to the artists on tour . Hope it gets better .

Don't be too jealous; everything but the concert was positively hellish. Parking, getting in, etc. was all an absolute and utter nightmare (even the seasoned concertgoers were wondering what the hell was going on).

Not that it wasn't worth it though...

I parked by the Cyclone and the aquarium both nights. Sat. night I paid $15, but Sun I parked at the same time as before, but paid $26 (with the aquarium admission I was forced to pay). I was in the seats the first night, but on the field the second. I much preferred the seats.

I did like the new song 'Muly Guly' the first night.
